May is National Salad Month! Start the summer off with exploring a variety of salads for lunch or dinner. Salads can be a healthy and easy meal, especially on hot summer days when you don’t want to heat up the kitchen! Salads can include all food groups to make a balanced meal. Easy choices are lettuces and vegetables, but don’t forget fun add-ins like raisins, cranberries, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, quinoa almonds, chicken, tuna, tofu, and cheeses.

There are hundreds of salad recipes for Asian, Mediterranean, classic and gourmet flavors. Just check out the recipes on our website or Pinterest page.

May is also Celiac Awareness Month. Celiac disease is a condition where the small intestine is hypersensitive to gluten, leading to difficulty in digesting food. There are more than 300 symptoms of celiac disease. Common symptoms are GI distress, fatigue, joint pain, and weight loss. These differences can make a celiac disease diagnosis extremely difficult to make, resulting in 83% of people with celiac disease undiagnosed or misdiagnosed with other conditions. Left untreated, people with celiac disease can develop further complications such as other autoimmune diseases, osteoporosis, thyroid disease and certain cancers. Celiac disease has no cure or medication; the only treatment is a 100% gluten free diet. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and the derivatives of these grains, including malt and brewer’s yeast.

Many of Clearly Organic packaging states whether or not the product is gluten-free. Your local grocery retailer can also be a resource for finding and discovering gluten-free products. Look for in-store signage or ask the store manager for suggestions.
