From the Dietitian’s Desk – April Newsletter

Spring is here! This is one of my favorite times of the year.

Many people use this time to open the windows and do a little spring clean. Don’t forget to spring clean out your pantry and refrigerator. Look for expired items you many not use often, such as spices, flavorings, dressings, and condiments. Think about swapping out some of your pantry items for healthier versions.

Some items to think about upgrading include: who wheat flour for unbleached white (you can use a combination of both in many recipes), wild rice or brown rice (both are whole grains) for white rice, olive oil for vegetable oil, and organic or all natural nut butters for peanut butter.

Earth Day is April 22, so be sure to enjoy the fresh air and nature! The most common practice of celebration is to plant new trees. Another way to support the environment is to buy organic foods! How will you be celebrating? Let us know and have a happy spring!
